Welcome to another Northstar Nerd Tutorial / screencast, the Google Wonder Wheel! Do you ever find that you sometimes don't pay attention to new features of software you think you know well? In my case, that was what happened in terms of the Google Wonder Wheel. For instance, I always use advanced Google Search as it helps me create better search queries. Unfortunately, I had not paid much attention to new features ... after all ... I am a nerd and know how I want to do things!
Well folks, that is a dangerous attitude. One must always keep learning, and with that introduction I present to you a short (2 minutes 15 seconds) tutorial I created which demonstrates how the Google Wonder Wheel can help you fine tune your search queries and get better results. I love the Wonder Wheel!. It's not only a great
feature, it's got a great story behind it.
The idea comes from Jon Klienberg of Cornell who had
the concept of "Hubs" and "Authorities" back in 1999
when Brin and Page where developing PageRank (they
were aware of each other at the time and cited each
others papers).
Interestingly, both concepts were developed concurrently with Network Theory ( Kleinberg and
Network Theorist Duncan Watts were at Cornell and
collaborated).
